Square Trade Warranty By James Hilton My Experience with Square Trade Warranties
I have been a member on ebay since 2001; buying and selling occasionally as a hobby.
Three months ago I decided to change my cell phone and started researching what are my options without breaking my contract with my current carrier. After reading some reviews regarding unlocked phone I realized I can purchase an unlocked phone and simply use my current carrier by using the same sim card.
EBay marketplace seemed very economical at that time for an unlocked Motorola v3 razr; found one for $169.00 + $14.99 shipping. The seller seemed to be very reputable and trust worthy as their feedback was over 10000. The seller was also verified by Square Trade and had a logo which said “Member of Square Trade Bid with Confidence” at the end of the listing the seller included the square trade warranty logo “Square Trade Warranty Available”; after winning the auction I paid the seller and completed the transaction, moments later I received an email from the seller regarding the option to purchase a square trade warranty for $19.99 and it would cover the phone for up to three years which I found very reasonable as the phone itself did not had any manufacturer warranty. I purchased the warranty and few days later the phone arrived in the mail.
Two weeks ago my phone decided to give up on me and would not power up, tried every possible solution I can come up by myself. First I contacted Motorola through email and got their standard automated reply that they would get back to me, tried calling them and after waiting hours on the phone finally got some one on the other side; turns out they would not help me as the phone was not manufactured in the United States “We do not provide any support neither any warranty for phone manufactured outside United States” At that time it strike
me that I also purchased a warranty but due to recent email change I lost the confirmation email which was sent to me after the purchase of the warranty from Square Trade; I went to their website and found their contact information, called square trade and within seconds I was connected to a young lady who answered the phone politely with the company greeting. After explaining her my bizarre problem she was able to retrieve my warranty information and we went over some quick fixes which failed to turn the phone on. She asked me to mail the phone to their company so they can do the requisite repairs which I did (unfortunately I had to pay for the shipping).
Yesterday I received an email from square trade regarding my Motorola that they were unable to repair the phone and a check for the amount of $169.00 has been issued to cover to the cost of the phone. I couldn’t believe if the email was true therefore I decided to call square trade myself to verify if I am getting $169.00 from them. Turns out it was correct, the representative confirmed my address and name and verified the fact that square trade is sending me a check to cover the purchase price I paid for the Motorola. I am very shocked as in the world we live in today every company is trying to make extra dollars from consumers and then there is square trade which decided to reimburse me for the amount I spent on the purchase.
Now I am waiting for the check to arrive in the mail, this time I might consider buying a Nokia with a square trade warranty. I would recommend purchasing square trade warranties on eBay products as my entire experience with the company was hassle free.
