For example, a motor trade insurance policy is issued to those who are directly or indirectly related to the business of cars, and who make their livelihood by buying, selling, or repairing the vehicles.


Depending on the requirements, there are a number of motor trade insurance policies that are being issued by various insurance companies. These policies may differ in attributes such as the period of coverage, premiums, payment options, and the nature of coverage. The major types of policies that are currently available in the market include:

• Third party motor trade insurance policy – this is the most common type of insurance policy that is offered by the insurance organizations. The policy states that any trader can go opt it, if (1) either the trader, or the customer, is the owner of the car that is being driven by the trader on public roads, or (2) the trader deals in the repairing and restoration of classic and vintage cars, or (3) the trader directly deals in the purchasing and selling of either brand new cars, or second hand cars, or (4) the trader is the owner of a garage, or (5) the trader has been operating as either a mobile turner and/or fitter. The third party insurance deals directly with the damages that are caused to any third party vehicle, which includes both

human damage and monetary damage, or any other kinds of damage related to third party vehicles.

• Third party policy including theft and fire – apart from all the above types of coverage, third party insurance policies are also available with the coverage of theft of car, or fire damage done to the car, or any other such incidences. These policies are preferred more than the normal third party policy, and the premiums of this policy are also little more than the premiums charged by normal third party policies.

• Comprehensive motor trade insurance policy - this type of policy provides coverage of any kind of on-road accident to the vehicle of the trader, along with both the above types of coverage. The premium charged by these policies is more than that of third party policies, which include fire and theft.

• Liability policy – this type of motor trade insurance policy is designed especially for that trader who, (1) is the employer of people, such as the owner of a garage that has employed mechanics, or (2) invites the public to the store or some other building while delivering services to them, such as car repairing, or car washing, or (3) the trader is the supplier of parts and accessories of different cars. Further, a trader can opt from the following three kinds of liability policies: (1) employer’s policy, (2) public liability policy, (3) services, sale, and products indemnity policy.
