Bricklaying work is as it sounds, but the nature of the work depends on the environment you are working in. You can even advertise your services through the internet or in local media and wait for calls to come in. Working in this manner could mean you do not need to provide or deal with ordering materials, as the employer or individual may have already organised that, and they simply need the labour.

This is a general rule for most trade jobs, the options are to be a freelance plumber, carpenter, electrician, bricklayer etc. working for individuals or larger companies on one’s own terms, to set up one’s own business, or to seek employment with a company where work can be slightly more constrained, but also more steady and without the requirement of dealing with other aspects of running a business.
